Last day

Tomorrow is the last day...I hope that you all had fun! What was your favorite part? My avorite parts was when we did the Dance Dance Revolution. I liked Guitar Hero and Mario. If you had to choose something different, what would it be? I was just talking with a lot of the councilers during lunch, and we were talking to ourselves about maybe forming a one-day camp on a Friday and Saturday next year right before the second session comes in. If you had the choice between going next year and staying at home, what would it be? I am glad you all came. Well, I will see you next time. Oh, and please do not spoil the seventh book of Harry Potter. We want to read it!! Stay in touch!

~Spaz

You made the news!

Please take note

I would strongly advise people to not log on to an email account starting tomorrow...the new Harry Potter book will be out, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I know that a lot of people will not be logging on. Please do not tell anyone the ending of the book unless they ask or they have already read it.
Like I said earlier, I have enjoyed meeting you guys, and I hope we still will keep in touch. Well, since tomorrow is the last day, obviously we will be going and we won't be logged on as much. Thanks for everything! I will hopefully see you later.
Oh, did you know that they made a tiny robot fly that in a couple of years will be able to spy on people? They just don't know how to control it yet.
Well, I will see you guys later!

Sincerely,
Spaz

hey ppl read this

hey so today was a really fun day cuz we go to go to Telstar which is an elememtry school. The kids there made my day even better i was upset at first cuz i was late but when i walked in to that school i just felt so glad that i was there those kids put the life in me. They were so great. i really wish that i could go to school there that would be so awesome. all those kids are so cool they r really really cool kids. i hardley even know them and i am goin to say that i love them. i know that i just meet them but i really do like them. me and a friend we were talkin about how these kids really dont have the opportunity that we do so there for we should be happy with wat we have and not complain about wat we dont have cuz some kids in the world may not have any thing at all. When you do!!!!!!

day 4 of change!!

Today was a very good day after my tireing morning we went to go read to some elementry students at Telstar elementry!!! and after being there i realized that i should be proud of what i have instead of complaining about what i dont have! And i didnt realize that other kids in some schools dont get the same special treament that i have , and i felt i was inspiring younger kids and teaching them what i learned when i was there age!!! So im goin to tell you or describe to you the kids i helped out with. The first kid was a girl her name was acasha and she was in first grade and she could read very good im mean i think she was better than me when i was her age!! lol she really inspired me !! The 2nd kid was adrian (boy) he was in 2nd grade and could read a little bit but still a really great reader , like my dad always says practice makes perfect! lol(thx dad). The third person was a boy that was in 4th grade he told me that he couldnt read very well when i got the chapter books out so i said ok thats fine (i tried to not put him on the spot, and i didnt) i worked with him well i just wish i could have taught him more ,and had to read, i didnt make the situation tooo serious so i made him laugh a couple of times(somthing im good at lol...) and he enjoyed it!! The 4th kid her name was brieonca (dont know if i spelled right) and after i got done reading w/ her she gave to hugs to say goodbye i felt ive done somthing right! The 5th kid her name was raven and she was in 3rd grade and was very good reader and she also gave me a hug!! My last and most special was the little boy in kindergarden , the reason why i dont know his name is he spoke sooo low and he was really shy , and i had to read to him of course. I never knew i would learn somthing like this and im glad i did!!!

i would again like to thank the counslors and sharon (

AND ALL MY THANKS TO THE KIDS THAT I WORKED WITH AND THAT LOVED LISTENING AND LOVED TALKING TO ME !!!!!!!! I APPRIETIATED

LOVE ALWAYS BRITTANY MINTON

Green Team: Information Matrix Camp: Day Four

Today was a great day, first we went to Telstar Elementary School and read with the children there. Then we went and ate lunch, and after eating we went to OU Medical Library and learned some neat facts. My favorite part of today was going to the elementary school and reading with the kids because I enjoyed helping them learn to read new words and watching them have such fun reading. We also did scrapbooking today and I love to scrapbook.

One little girl

I was in Telstar Elementary School...and there was a little girl that I read to...and she told me that she couldn't read. I found out that she knew the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that they made. But with a little practice, we were able to help her learn...and she was whizzing through books like you wouldn't believe!

Also, I along with some others were interviewed by Fox and Channel four...and I believe Channel nine, too! So, I believe that that part will turn on at 9:00pm today...just a head's up.

Thanks!

Be smart, be safe, and have fun!

BLOGGING IN YOUR FREE TIME

Good morning, everyone! Well, as I get on the blog today, I take a moment to think of this blog. What I am trying to say is: If you want to get on your blog, you are not limited to just the computer lab. That is it...it is kind of obvious.

UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA

Tomorrow, as you guys may already know, we are going to spend a lot of the day at the University of Oklahoma at the library (duh).

WHY TO BE SAFE ON A BLOG

Why not put your personal information on a blog? Since a blog is not live, it won't matter if I do put my phone number on or not, right? I mean, that way, more chicks would have a chance to get to know me, so that's OK, right?

Wrong. Yes, they may get to know you, but other people would know you as well. OK, picture this: Someone you have been writing to for months or even years asks you out on a date, say, on the corner of the downtown library or the lawn on her grandmother's house. How about we picture about her grandma's house. Well, you agree, because the person that you have been writing to is a really hot chick. Or so she calls herself. So you go to her grandmother's house, and you look around. You see this nice looking car. An old guy rolls down the window and says, "Are you looking for my granddaughter?" You say yes, and he tells you that she is at her house, not this house. He says to get into his car. You agree, and as soon as you get into the car, the guy locks it, and you cannot get out (you are in the back seat). You realize something: That house that you assumed was the grandma's house was a deserted house. And you realize something else: you were technically dating a very old guy with a sick mind.

If you give someone your phone number, they can find out a lot. They find the first three numbers in a phone number, and they know your whereabouts, and with a little asking about, they have found your house.

If you give someone your address, they are, of course, going to go straight to your house.

If you tell what your school is, they go to your school saying that they are one of your guardians coming to pick you up...you have been discovered by a kidnapper. Think of a nickname, and do not give out any of your personal information...ever.

~Spaz

Counselors have fun too!

I am having so much fun this week getting to know all of you! What a great group you are! I think you would all make good librarians - and you've already learned that there are tons of different jobs librarians do!

I am interested in what you are all reading right now - if you click on comment below, you can answer this post and tell me. I'm always looking for new books that I would enjoy reading!

P.S. I printed this post in my favorite color!

Day 2

Today we went to the memorial, memorial library, and memorial museum. The museum was so sad. We also went to the ocu law lib. and just there lib... It was alot of walking.

Having fun!!!

We have had so much fun lately! We love this camp so much! today was fun we went to the OKC bombing sight and saw the awesome survivor tree! It is like 90 years old! I cant belive it's that old but it is tree so they last must for a long time but it was the last tree survived of the bombing and the tree diseases.

*!~JAS~!*

Well, I can see that everything is going all right for those of you out there! Did you learn anything that was interesting? Well, most I knew, but some were new! (rhyme!)

Thank you for answering me the question that I asked...what was the movie. Thanks! See ya later!

Blogging and Online Safety

One of the handouts I gave you on Monday was a newsletter about safe blogging. It discusses weblogs or blogs. Blogs are another name for Web Journals. They are usually maintained in chronological order by date of post. People who read the blog are usually welcome to post replies, their thoughts, etc. in the form of comments. Blogging can be lots of fun and it is a popular way of interacting or communicating online.

The Perils of Blogging

We post to our blog confidently because we are behind a screen where we feel safe: at our library, at school, or at home. However, anyone online can read your blog. The potential danger of blogging is from people who use the Internet to gain information about you because they want money, or they want to conduct their own business - either selling your info or using it in an illegal manner, or they want to bully or even harm you like the people we saw in the videos: Pool Party and Predator. How can these perils be prevented?

Blogging Safely and Responsibly

1. Password-protect your blog and safeguard that password.
2. Avoid sharing personal, detailed information.
3. Do not fill in or use the profile option.
4. Do not share personal information about anyone else.
5. Read your post. Edit out anything revealing TMI.
6. Do not post photos of yourself or others.
7. Do not leave your blog open and unattended.
8. Do not spread gossip or slander about others.

Keep these tips in mind as you blog your adventures and thoughts this week. Be smart, be safe, and have fun!

Can you wait until tomorrow?

Tomorrow, we will be at the MWC Library...we will be also at Border's Books, so bring your money! (Hopefully you will be reading this blog before classes tomorrow.) We will be going to the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism...and there we will have lunch at Markie's. If that is not enough, we will be in the OCU Law Library and Dulaney-Brown Lib...What is that? Hope it is fun!

Also, we will be able to watch another movie and be able to swim.

Does anyone remember what the movie that we watched today was called? I can't remember...all that I remember is the fact that the main character was a librarian...and that there was a spear involved. Anyone else able to the pieces of this puzzle?

What other movies do you think we will be watching next?

As I look down my agenda, I see the words "Library fun." I hope that it is not what I am thinking it is...but I am sure it is not. Well, that is about it. Oh, if you need a room wake up call, I will be able to do that. You can find me...hopefully. :)

Keep Personal (Identifying) Information Private

In Monday's internet safety and blogger session, you received a handout titled: Be Smart - Be Safe. It tells us that we need to safeguard our online identity by not giving out private information in our email address, screen name, or password. We should be careful using our name, age, street address, location, birth date, school name, gender, phone number, or any combinations of personal information in our user ID, screen name, or password. It is safer to keep personal information private.

TMI! (Too Much Information)

On the back of the Be Smart - Be Safe handout is a Profile Activity. Do you already have a website like this one at Blogspot.com or MySpace.com with an online profile? Do you share any of the information listed in the Profile Activity box on your website? Remember watching Pool Party, and Predator? These videos showed us that personal information can be searched and used by strangers.

Remember to be smart, be safe, and have fun!

Spaz is back!

Well, we did have fun at the Spagetti Warehouse...great!

Monday

Today we went to the Oklahoma City Downtown Library, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Oklahoma History Center. The library was a beauitful four story library stocked with mountains of information. While touring we saw the offices where all of the book requests are evaluated, the computer lab, and the compressed shelves where the books for the new Oklahoma library are waiting. After eating at the Spaghetti Warehouse, the history museum became our next destination. We had a wonderful tour guide in the museum, showing us many of the wonderful items. At the archives we went into the back rooms where most of the documents were held and where the photos, maps, and newspapers are scanned.

Welcome to the 2007 Information Matrix Camp Blog

We are so excited to have a blog devoted to the first of three annual information science / library camps for Oklahoma middle school students. We plan to use our blog site to talk about the latest happenings at camp. I am your IMC blog counselor and we are going to have a wonderful week learning online personal safety as we begin our positive approach to blogging. Welcome campers!
