Keep Personal (Identifying) Information Private

In Monday's internet safety and blogger session, you received a handout titled: Be Smart - Be Safe. It tells us that we need to safeguard our online identity by not giving out private information in our email address, screen name, or password. We should be careful using our name, age, street address, location, birth date, school name, gender, phone number, or any combinations of personal information in our user ID, screen name, or password. It is safer to keep personal information private.

TMI! (Too Much Information)

On the back of the Be Smart - Be Safe handout is a Profile Activity. Do you already have a website like this one at Blogspot.com or MySpace.com with an online profile? Do you share any of the information listed in the Profile Activity box on your website? Remember watching Pool Party, and Predator? These videos showed us that personal information can be searched and used by strangers.

Remember to be smart, be safe, and have fun!
